Edward R. Torrez, age 78, of Olathe, Kansas, formerly of Osawatomie, Kansas, died November 28, 2016 at Olathe Medical Center.

Ed was born June 20, 1938 at Arkansas City, Kansas. He was one of nine children born to Edward and Augrelia (Vasquez) Torrez.

His first marriage was to Jessie Llamas.

He was later married to Marlene Burroughs. Marlene preceded him in death.

Ed worked as a carpenter. He had worked for many big construction companies.

He enjoyed small animals, especially dogs. Spending time with his great, great niece Eva Sosa brought Ed much joy. He also used his carpentry skills as a hobby on the side. Although he was not a veteran himself, he was very generous with monetary donations to the charitable organizations affiliated with veterans.

He was a member of the Prince of Peace Church, Masonic Lodge #19 AF & AM, and the American Legion all in Olathe.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings Benito, Magdalino, Domingo, Betty, Charlotte, George, Teresa, and Nicholas.

He is survived by his niece Marie (Dennis) Sheehan of Olathe who was his main caregiver for the past seven years; several other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Contributions in memory of Ed can be made to the Humane Society or American Cancer Society and sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 605 O'Neal Ave., Osawatomie, KS, 66064.
