Kenneth “Curly” Cox, age 85, of Paola, Kansas passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at his home with his wife of 60 years by his side.

Kenny was born July 27, 1930 at LaCygne, Kansas. He was the older of two sons born to John E. and Ruth F. (Worlein) Cox. He graduated from Paola High School with the Class of 1948.

He was united in marriage to Lucille Hagedorn on June 11, 1955 in St. Joseph’s Church at Shawnee, Kansas. They moved to Paola and became the parents of a daughter Sherry.

Kenny worked in construction as a pipefitter with Local #533 for 55 years. He retired in 1992.

Driving country roads looking for deer to hunt was one of Kenny’s favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed hunting pheasant and quail. He loved the time he spent on his farm gardening and tending to his black angus cattle. In his spare time, he also liked to tinker with his Allis Chalmers tractors and his 1941 Ford pickup. Kenny purchased a brand new red chevy pickup in 1979 which he could still be seen sporting around town up until a few months ago when his health no longer allowed him to drive. His most favorite pastime was the time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Paola. Kenny served in the National Guard. He was also a member of the Elks Club, BPOE #921 in Osawatomie and the American Legion in Paola.

He is survived by his wife Lucille of the home; daughter Sherry of rural Osawatomie; his brother Bernard Cox (Agnes) of Spring Hill, KS; four grandchildren Jake, Chase (Denise), Chelsie, and Chance (Chelsea) Doherty; four great grandchildren Braeden, Addalyn, Maddex, and Brooks Doherty; many other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions are to Holy Trinity Catholic School or Miami County Cancer Foundation.
