Samuel C. Courter, age 86, of Osawatomie, Kansas, died November 30, 2014 at his home.

Sam was born June 18, 1928 at Goodman, Missouri. He was the second of eight children born to Merle and Dollie (Jordan) Courter. He grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Holy Cross Catholic School in Kansas City, Missouri.

Sam and Irene Click were united in marriage March 10, 1951 at Kansas City, Missouri. They made their home in Kansas City and became the parents of four children. They moved from Kansas City to Independence and 30 years later moved to Osawatomie to make their home.

Sam was the owner and operator of a gasoline/service station on Independence Avenue for approximately 20 years.

Sam enjoyed fishing anywhere water could be found. He had also enjoyed hunting in his younger years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Edward who died in infancy, and two brothers Frank and Pat.

He is survived by his wife Irene of the home; three children Ted Courter (Peggy) of Independence, Missouri; Carol Hanlin (Terry) of Osawatomie; and Judy Rolls (Butch) of Lewisville, Texas; one granddaughter Nikki Rolls; two great grandchildren Cayton and Cale Martin, and one step granddaughter Brandi Martin; other relatives and friends.
